The Marsh at Essex

The Marsh at Essex
9x12 pastel on pastelboard

This was my second painting of the day at the PSNH paint-out.  I tried pastelboard for the first time.  As with many pastel surfaces, the first layer did not go on smoothly and resisted blending.  Many layers later things were going fine. This was such a great experience - there are so many more colors that the camera just doesn't see even though I had to wait for the tide to come back in.

I plan to experiment with a variety of grounds so that next time I can get started with a familiar surface. I think I will try Uart next.
