Tulips

"Tulips" 8x8 oil on Arches paper for oils

This was an experiment.  I heard that Arches put out a paper just for oils and I had to give it a try.  It came in my last Blick order. The surface is very nice, smooth and soft.  The paint handled differently though.  My brush seemed to want to stick wherever I put it down and the paint did not want to move.  It did get easier as I went along especially after I added more OMS. I think I'd like to try this with very thin paint, almost like a watercolor.  Was I supposed to gesso it first?

  2. Your results are lovely...nice soft colors. I don't know anything about the paper, but it seems like it would defeat the purpose to have to gesso it????? Really nice job, Sandra. Nice to see some flowers in this frigid air, too!

  3. Thank you Margaret and Meredith- I made it to the last Saturday in the challenge and the end is in sight. When it's over I'm going to take a day off and then start painting again!

  4. Just .discovered your blog-lovely work! I have been doing the whole challenge with the Arches paper, and you don't have to use gesso. It does take the paint differently, but my biggest concern (which of course I didn't think of) is how to present them after. I looked up all kinds of answers and think I will be gluing them to cradled hardboard panels and hanging them that way. Good luck with the last few days! I just joined your blog too.
